Even though there are other places to go zip-lining in Nova Scotia, from the Halifax area you might as well drive to Moncton, three hours away, because it’s closer.
This would be a great way for teens and adults to get off of the couch, crossing fingers that the project can still be improved!
While in opposition our MLA had something to say about everything. Now his silence is deafening– Why?. He is still our MLA, he is still our representative. Why has he lost his interest in the people he represents. I think he said he and his party would be different. Appearently not so. He has gone into a shell and refuses to communicate with us and refuses to take our best interests forward. Good old party politics in NS.
One thing we do know about government policy. When it is convenient for the party in power ‘policy” is a great excuse to hide behind. However when it is to their advantage it is very easy to “ignore” the policy. So in a case like this we know there are other issues at hand. The community wants THEIR land made available for this use. The government hides behind the ‘policy”. Our MLA is silent.
So what are the real reasons we have been denied this reasonable project on our lands. If Mr. Paris could find the time to communicate with us, perhaps he could let us know. Mr. Paris where are you??? It seams to me that a short time ago Mr. Paris went to Germany and India in the hopes of attracting jobs to NS. Well here is a case right in his district, right under his nose, where we could get needed jobs. Next time Mr. Paris should save us money by staying home, finding time to represent us, and seizing those easy to get jobs that knock on our door.
As is usual with this community, politics and/or who you know tends to make the decisions. It should be what the people want and not what the government deems to be policy. It appears that this was a way for our community to get some areas fixed up for local children to use for sports; e.g. ball fields, etc. and provide some much needed employment.
When there was an issue with the school board lunch hour policy Mr. Paris was the first to be out on the sidewalks talking about the injustice being done to the community. When there were long lines of traffic trying to exit the 118 Mr. Paris was first on the scene to have his picture taken and give an interview on the failure of the government to recognize the needs of his community. Etc. Etc.
The citizens support a tree go operation in Waverley, but this governmet says no. Would our children benfit, would our community benefit , would the Athletic Assoc. benefit, would Waverley/ Fall River be a better place, would jobs be created??? YES, YES….
So Mr. Paris what is the problem that you will not stand up for your constituents- who I remind you, ELECTED you based on YOUR promises to do what was best for US. Have you forgotten your promises already??? Why are you missing in action??
You rolled over to your party when it broke its promise not to raise taxes. Breaking promises seams to be standard operating procedure now that you are in power.
There is something here we are not being told! The citizens of this community are being harmed and I can only conclude it is politics. And MR. Paris said he would be different. Shame on him!!!
Putting private industry on public land is bad policy. The terms of the lease of the Sportspark lands are not ambiguous and the directors of the park should have known the terms of reference of the lease before proceeding as they did to try and attract private industry.
Some people with that group have always believed they can write their own rules. I suspect that the directors of the group went forward with their plans in an anticipated political power play whereby they hoped the Statutes of Nova Scotia would be ignored. If the stewards of the park don’t like the law about the use of leased crown lands they should work through proepr channels to change them not break them.

Spell check… I meant approved.

i agree with barry hubley’s comments
This is all to typical for HRM and is part of the reason why other communities in the Maritimes like Moncton are leaving Halifax in their dust.
It seems that the politicians are determined to keep Halifax a have not city.
Its sad that we as Haligonians have to drive hours away to Moncton or Cavendish for any real recreation with our families.
