Miller Lake Learning Center (licensee of the Exceeding Reading Language System©) is holding an Open House on Jan. 17, from 2 - 4p.m. New owner Toby Humphreys extends an invitation to everyone to drop by; come and see the fresh new décor and check out the many wonderful programs the centre has to offer, both old and new.

The Beaver Bank Lions New Years Day Levee may have been post-poned, but guests and Lions were more than happy to get together for a belated celebration on Sat. Jan. 3, to continue the annual tradition at the Beaver Bank Lions Club.

LWF New Years Day Levee Weathers the Storm

New Years Day arrived with gusto! Snow and blizzard-like conditions pummelled most of Nova Scotia on the first day of 2009, and while many levees across the province were cancelled, the levee at the LWF Hall in Fall River went ahead as planned.
“We’re a different breed here in Fall River,” laughed District 2 Councillor Barry Dalrymple. “While every other event in the HRM – and probably the province – was cancelled, we went ahead and had a pretty good crowd.” Read more

Mrs. Carrie Yorke, Fall River, celebrated her 91st birthday on Dec. 28. Mrs. Yorke’s special day was made even more meaningful when she was baptized at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Fall River. Thirteen month old Catherine Lewis was also baptized during the Sunday service. “You see,” said Rev. Marian Conrad, “this just goes to show, it’s never too soon or too late to become a part of God’s church.”

Local Resident Says “Thanks” to Her Community

Local resident Linda Reynolds says she is deeply moved at the kindness shown her by members of her community and beyond. Reynolds suffers from Secondary Progressive MS; she was diagnosed with the disease eight years ago, at the age of 30.
Recently, Reynolds received a new computer, a Sony laptop, thanks to the efforts of Rick Cruse and his wife Debbie – Rick is the pastor of the Fall River Chapel. A Christmas Play by the Kids of St. Thomas Anglican Church

Children from St. Thomas Anglican Church in Fall River brought the meaning of Christmas to life for the congregation when they performed the nativity scene. Church Sunday School teacher Denise Jackson organized the delightful performance.

Lions and Volunteers Pack Christmas Boxes for Delivery

Riverlake Lions Club members and community volunteers were busy packing boxes of food on Dec. 18.
Food items collected during The Lions Express Christmas Parade and through individual donations, brought in enough to supply a box of groceries and a Christmas dinner to more than 90 families said Head Lion John Bona.

A fundraising event for “Grandmothers for Grandmothers” of Africa is taking place. Those who missed out on the Dec. 17 tour due to bad weather can still take part - the special Open House tour will be on again tomorrow, Dec. 18., 6:30-9:30 p.m.
