Community Hall
Did you know that we have a community hall in Fall River? One that is available for organizations and/or community members for very low fees? A hall that was built by members of the three communities of Lakeview, Windsor Junction and Fall River on land donated by the Metzler family and supported by community members with suppers, dances, bake sales, etc. This building is located at 843 Fall River Road and was the site of the LWF Volunteer Fire Department for many years until HRM changed the management of the facilities in 1986 and started on the road to build a new fire hall – to be completed this year, sometime between June and September.
First, some history: The hall was planned during 1960, built by volunteers beginning in 1961 – all without the aid of any tax dollars. It was expanded into the present building over the years and remained active with the firemen and ladies auxiliary earning money toward new equipment and upkeep of the hall. For a number of years, the fire department members used the hall as a social centre; however, once they stopped using the club section at the direction of HRM and stopped doing any repairs or upkeep, it began to go down hill and was losing money. The hall and land does belong to the members of the three communities of Lakeview, Windsor Jct. and Fall River and not to HRM.
A new board was formed and we have been running the hall with a small group of local community members for the past five years. During this period, the local Lions also moved into the hall and began using it for their meetings and various activities. The joint effort of the LWF Association and the Riverlake Lions has managed to bring the hall around and provide a place in our community that can be used by young and old alike.
Once the fire department removes their final pieces of equipment, etc. from the hall, we will be making improvements to the bay side with an eye to renting it out to help us take care of the hall financially. To date, HRM has been paying heat & electricity but these bills will now be turned over to us along with the other costs associated with maintaining the building and property.
The hall is available for rental by all groups for fund raisers, birthday/anniversary parties, meetings, etc. with bar and kitchen services available. We would like to encourage everyone to use the hall for any and all occasions so that we can provide a service to our communities that many would like to have and don’t. Please be aware that the building is here and we want it to be used to its best advantage. If you have any questions on availability, rental rates, etc., please don’t hesitate to contact:
