Become a Movember Man

Are you man enough to be a Movember man (or woman enough to love a Mo man)?

Michealle Hanshaw works without much fanfare at a “little” company called Research In Motion and recently, she wanted to do something to draw awareness to men’s health issues. “I have decided to join a global movement known as Movember to bring much needed attention to prostate cancer,” said Hanshaw, “and I want everyone on my Movember team.”

Movember is the month formerly known as November where men start clean shaven and commit to growing a Moustache.  ”That’s right,” said Hanshaw, “we are bringing back the Moustache to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer! Any funds we raise during Movember go to Prostate Cancer Canada.”

What many people don’t know is that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict Canadian men with 25,500 diagnosed and 4,400 dying from the disease each year.  ”Clearly, I can’t grow a moustache – I’m what Movember calls a “Mo Sista” – so I need other people who can to be part of my Movember team,” Hanshaw said. ”To join my Movember team called Research In Moustache go to http://ca.movember.com/register/62614.”

Once registered you’ll be sent all the information you need to get donations and get growing as part of Hanshaw’s Movember team. ”We’ve got a team Movember space where we are posting pictures and sharing stache stories,” she said. “One member of our team shaved a 25 year old moustache to start fresh in Movember.  Some of us have been touched by prostate cancer others just want to live out their Magnum PI fantasy.  Some of us are canvassing hard to raise money for the cause and others are in it for some fun and to raise awareness for a really important issue.  Whatever your reason, together we can change the face of men’s health. Please inform anyone you feel might want to join or support our Research In Moustache team,” said Hanshaw. “All are welcome, we’re *not* limiting membership to only our RIM peers.”

To date, Hanshaw and her group have raised over $500 for prostate cancer research.
