NSHA Raise Funds for Halifax Ground Search and Rescue
A fund-raiser was held in August at the Village Green in Waverley. The event was organized by Paul Pettipas, Chief Executive Officer of the Nova Scotia Homebuilders Association (NSHA), with all proceeds going to support the Halifax Regional Search and Rescue.
A band played on the green while a small audience sat and enjoyed the music; children romped and played, some getting their faces painted and some taking a turn in the bouncy house set up for their entertainment. There was a silent auction set up inside the building and folks could bid on the items displayed there.
Pettipas got into the cooking mood by donning his chef’s hat for his position at the helm of the BBQ.
Sherry Donovan, Communications Director for the NSHA, was pleased to be part of the effort to raise funds for a worthy cause. “Homebuilders care,” she said. “The NSHA works well with other none-profit organizations.”
Donovan shared plans for the monies being raised that day. “Funds will go towards building a new 3-bay garage to replace the existing garage. They now store two there; but they need all the vehicles in one location. It’s should help speed up response time,” said Donovan. “This is one way we can give back to the people and the community as well.”
The NSHA had help from a number of university students that day, young men and women who worked hard to assist the fund-raising effort. Pettipas was thankful for the help and expressed his thoughts. He looked around, nodding towards a few of the busy workers. “There is nothing wrong with today’s kids; the students and the band all donated their time,” he said, “today’s youth, did a great thing today.”
