Children and Parents Get Stuck on Sticky Kids

Sticky Kids is a great new drop-in centre located in Suite 202, 1330 Fall River Rd. The centre is a place where moms and dads can bring their kids for a play while giving parents the opportunity to mingle and meet with other mothers and fathers.

“We provide a personal service, small enough for you to get to know me, and me to know you!” said Jenny Tyler, owner and operator of Sticky Kids. Tyler is an ECE qualified teacher. She immigrated with her family to Canada in 2006, and says she “fell in love with Nova Scotia! We have really settled into the community and continue to explore and enjoy our new home.”

Tyler has an extensive background in early childhood education. “I became certified in England in 1993 and I have worked in many daycares in both England and Nova Scotia,” she said. “Before leaving England, I was the Director of a very large daycare. In Nova Scotia, I was a Co-Director of a daycare that also allowed me to carry on as a pre-school teacher.”

Tyler says she is very excited to see Sticky Kids become a reality. “Recently, I’ve had the entrepreneurial bug, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to open my own business. I feel strongly that parents should have a place where ALL of their children, regardless of age, can play and learn in a place TOGETHER, exploring and learning with a variety of activities that will stimulate their individual needs.”

The wife and mother of two, says she feels lucky to be able to nurture her love of working with children while interacting with other moms and families. “Sticky Kids allows me to continue my love of working with children, which is very important for me, and allows me to meet and build relationships with so many families in our community!”

Tyler says she is proud to offer a number of unique opportunities at her centre. “Not only can your child play with the many toys at Sticky Kids, we have added extras to make your visits even more special,” she said. “We have Storytime Monday’s – Each Monday parents cab bring their children in for our 10:15 storytime fun. I will entertain your children with a fantastic new story each week. After the story, stay and let your children play while you enjoy coffee and conversation. When it is time to go home, each child who attended storytime gets to take home a story related colouring sheet!”

Sticky Kids offer something new for almost every day of the week. There is New Mom’s Tuesday. Moms with infants can meet other new mom’s. “Come in and enjoy a bottomless coffee or tea!” invites Tyler. “If you have pre-school aged children too, let them play while you enjoy chatting to other moms. We have a growing resource area with a wide range of books, a breastfeeding information area and an up-to-date health “board” featuring new health issues and answers each week.”

There is Paint on Wednesdays; “remember to wear old clothes!” said Tyler.

Beginning in December, Tyler will be holding parented pre-school sessions each Thursday from 9 – 11:15a.m. “Parents can pay monthly and I will be teaching a pre-school session,” Tyler said. “The only difference is that parents stay and get to see the children have a class. If the parents have infants, the infants can stay too!”

Sensory Surprise Fridays is where each Friday children can come in and see what special surprises are waiting for them to explore at the sensory tables.

Sticky Kids holds Crafty Saturdays, and three different types of craft are offered each week.
The centre is also open on Sundays. “On Family Sundays, you can enjoy a paper, and bottomless tea and coffee while your children play, make friends, and create their own crafts,” said Tyler. “It’s a great place for kids to play and parents to relax before or after a weekend of shopping!”
At Sticky Kids, parents and children get to spend time together, even though they may each be enjoying their own space. They can play or read together, or children can play while parents sit back and relax, read a book, or chat with other parents.

“I’m on-hand to create fun and exciting situations for your child to enjoy,” said Tyler. “I want this to be a nice experience, for both parents and their children.”

Tyler is optimistic about the future of Sticky Kids. “We have wonderful people in Fall River, and I am so proud to be able to offer a service to both families and local businesses. So many people have come to Sticky Kids not sure what to expect when they open the door, and yet when I take a minute at the end of each day, the comments that have been written are lovely to read; it makes me realize that by opening Sticky Kids, I have opened the door of opportunity to many other people, and that is such a good feeling.”
