Scouting groups make a clean sweep in Fall River

Fall River, Nova Scotia (D2N) – Saturday, April 24 was a very busy one, as many groups took part in annual community-wide spring clean ups – all part of the Earth Day efforts.

The community of Fall River was a buzz of activity as dozens of local Brownies, Girl Guides, Pathfinders, Cubs, Scouts, accompanied by their parents and leaders, took to the sidewalks, ditches, and roadways picking up debris as they do each spring. The sun shone as brightly as the various groups of children cleaned up their neighbourhood, including the grounds of the Gordon R. Snow Recreation Centre and along the Fall River Rd. Although participants did say there was not as much litter as is usually seen during the annual spring clean-up event, many of the participants reported that cigarette butts made up much of the debris.

“We are supposed to love God and take care of the world”, said Beaver Sasha, 4. The groups of volunteers certainly did their part and gathering numerous bags of garbage from along the roadways, ditches and parking lots in the area.

The Riverlake Lions Club rewarded their hard efforts with hot dogs and drinks afterwards, at the Fall River Sobeys parking lot.
